Lesson 4 – Solar-Plexus Energy Center

~ LESSON & ACTIVITIES ~

The Solar-Plexus

Right at the area above
your navel is your
solar-plexus, the energy

center or chakra that has
to do with the balancing
of emotions–or e-motions
which means energy in motion.

We want to take that energy, which all belongs to God and direct it for great things. We all experience emotions and desires, both good and bad.At the solar-plexus energy center you have the opportunity to cultivate a sense of peace and brotherhood.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace
Jesus was known as the Prince of Peace as he had complete mastery over his emotions and his solar plexus.

When you are nervous or fearful, where do you feel it in your body? Sometimes we call it butterflies in our stomach. That feeling is the solar-plexus-chakra when it is disturbed.

The solar-plexus is the place of peace in your body. Your solar plexus stays calm like the surface of a pond when you are happy and helpful. When you feel anger or fear, the calm and peace of your solar plexus is disturbed. These negative emotions are like a storm causing waves and choppy water on the pond.

You can choose to amplify fear and emotional turmoil around you or you can choose to be the peacemaker and not allow anything to disturb you. And, when you determine to stay peaceful, no matter what, you cultivate a deep sense of peace that is very helpful to you and to all around you. This is the great power and opportunity at the solar plexus. We cannot control what happens to us, but how we react to it is always in our control.

Staying quiet
By staying quiet and calm when everything around you is in chaos, by tapping into the powerful reservoir of peace that can be gathered at the solar plexus, you can summon a tremendous sea of energy to stabilize a situation, whether it is in your home or in a crowd. The more you learn to stay peaceful, the more powerful will be your peaceful presence in situations where you need it.

We live during a time of great turmoil on the Earth. Think about how badly the world needs people who are peaceful and can hold their peace even during difficult and dangerous times. The presence of Jesus as the Prince of Peace influenced many with his aura of peace.

Why would you want to have a reserve of positive energy by holding your peace?  Because you can be happy and serve all life with your joy!

Power of peace

There is a story on page 69 of Your Seven Energy Centers
about a Cambodian monk, Maha Gosananda, which shows the peaceful power that we can bring to a situation.

Maha Gosananda was visiting thousands of Cambodian refugees who had seen family members killed and had been forced from their homes by a ruthless dictator, Pol Pot. Ten thousand people came to hear him conduct a Buddhist ceremony. At first he was silent. Then he began to chant from the Buddhist scripture, the Dhammapada: “Hatred never ceases by hatred but by love alone is healed. This is an ancient and eternal law.” The entire group of refugees, moved by this timeless truth, joined him in chanting this refrain.

Maha Gosananda could have taken advantage of their frustration and anger and led them on into destruction. Instead, he chose to help them tap into the reservoir of peace and love that Pol Pot could never take from them. This is the power of the peace in your solar plexus chakra. Because Maha Gosananda had established the momentum of remaining peaceful even when it was difficult, it was possible for him to accomplish this most wonderful thing.

So, how do you calm and quiet yourself when everything around you is in chaos? Whenever you feel yourself getting upset, the best thing to do is to find a quiet place and try to calm down.

Exercising by a tree

You can take some deep breaths, do some exercise and remember it doesn’t help anything or anyone to get upset.

A special prayer
There is a special prayer that you can say each day that surrounds you with God’s light. It seals you with light so that criticism and negativity cannot reach you. It is called the Tube of Light decree. When you say this prayer, it helps to visualize the light coming down around you and sealing you from any negative energy inside or outside of you.

Picture of your divine self

Beloved I AM Presence bright,
Round me seal your tube of light.
From ascended master flame,
Called forth now in God’s own name.
Let it keep my temple free
From all discord sent to me.
I AM calling forth violet fire,
To blaze and transmute all desire.
Keeping on in freedom’s name
‘Till I AM one with the violet flame.

God’s energy is in motion through you.God’s energy comes to you each day so that you can live, be strong and help others with your gifts and talents. It is not always so clear what we can and should do. We sometimes make decisions when we are upset that we may regret later. In Proverbs we read: “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit [is better] than he that taketh a city.”We will have many opportunities to demonstrate that we can exercise self-control with our emotions and our words.

Our energy is on loan from God
God wants us to learn to master our energies. It is like he gives us a loan of energy. If we use it well, we can get additional loans of more energy because God knows his investment of energy is safe. If we repeatedly spill the energy through anger and agitation, eventually we can lose our supply of energy.

Tibetan Buddhism teaches that anger is one of the poisons that are deadly to our spiritual growth. Getting angry can become a habit. You can break that habit, like any other habit, by replacing it with a more thoughtful approach, giving yourself time to cool down before speaking or making decisions.

Some people think that to follow God you have to be free from desires. That is not true. The idea is for your personal desires to be the same as your soul’s deepest desire to fulfill its mission and serve life, as well as God’s desire for you.

Desiring to get educated to be able to better serve your family and make life better for people is right desire. The greatest gift you can ever give is the gift of yourself.  God has given you gifts and talents to develop and use. Whatever career you choose in life as a parent, a doctor, a mechanic, an artist or scientist, God’s plan for you is that you do it for others as well as for yourself. This is service. Serving is using God’s Light through our talents and gifts to help others.

We can be God in action when we help and serve other people. This prayer is called

I Am the Hand of God in Action.

I AM the hand of God in action,

Gaining victory every day.

My pure soul’s great satisfaction

Is to walk the Middle Way.
